Our position is on restructuring Nigeria – Ohanaeze Ndigbo

The apex Igbo socia-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo has reiterated its earlier stand on restructuring Nigeria against referendum for Biafra republic.

The group made its position known on Saturday through her Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Chuks Ibegbu.

Chuks who spoke with Daily Post on the matter, maintained that the group’s position has not changed.

“Our position is on restructuring Nigeria, make the country a place where all constituent units will have a place of belonging,” he said.

Speaking on the calls for referendum and boycott of all elections by the Nnamdi Kanu-led Indigenous People Of Biafra (IPOB), Chuks maintained that the group has the constitutional right to express their opposing views.

“Nnamdi Kanu has the freedom and constitutional right to take positions on any national issue, he’s a Nigerian despite pursuing Biafra agenda so to say, but that does not mean we share all his views.

“Kanu believes that Nigeria can’t be restructured because the people in charge are not sincere, he believes that there is no way Nigeria can be restructured, therefore, secession is his own option,” he said.

He however warned those burying Kanu because of his own view to desist, noting that self-expression is allowed in international law.

“We don’t have to kill him because of his view, self-expression is allowed in international law so we can’t say he should die because of his opposing view,” he added.
